ToMap ("we", "our", "the service") is a tool that extracts location names from text or images and renders them as an interactive map. This policy covers both the ToMap website (tomap.io) and the ToMap Chrome extension.
What we process
- Text or image content you submit — when you paste text, upload an image, or use the extension to map a page. This content is sent to our API and to Anthropic's Claude API for location extraction. It is not stored beyond the scope of your request.
- Your IP address — used for rate limiting (max 20 map creations per IP per day). Not stored beyond the current rate-limit window.
- Maps you create — stored temporarily by a random ID so you can share or revisit the link. Maps are not linked to an account or identity.
What we do not collect
- We do not require an account or collect personal information.
- We do not use cookies or advertising trackers.
- The Chrome extension does not transmit any data from your browser except the text content of the specific page or selection you explicitly choose to map.
- The extension does not run in the background, does not monitor your browsing, and only activates when you click the toolbar button or use the right-click menu.

Data retention
Maps are stored for a limited period (up to 30 days) and then expired. We do not maintain persistent user records. Rate-limit counters are reset daily.
Chrome extension permissions
The ToMap extension requests the following browser permissions:
- activeTab — reads the text content of the current tab only when you explicitly trigger the extension. No background access.
- contextMenus — adds "Map this page" and "Map this selection" items to the right-click menu.
- storage — stores your settings (dev mode toggle, custom URLs) locally in your browser. Nothing is synced externally.
